Redesigning, Redefining Diabetes
When I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, I barely understood what it meant. After years of living with it and talking with people with diabetes around the world, here's my attempt to explain what causes diabetes, what insulin does and what managing blood sugar actually looks like day to day.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 20, right in the middle of university exams. I had a lot to learn about my body and a new reality to navigate. Looking back, one of the biggest things that helped was finding other people who understood what I was going through.
I never started KYT expecting international design recognition. From our first Silver at the Best Design Awards to D&AD and Dezeen, the milestones have been a lovely surprise. More than anything, they reflect the hundreds of people with diabetes whose insights helped shape the collection.
KYT began with a question: could a bag for diabetes supplies look and feel like a bag you'd actually want to carry? Our first design was a leap of faith, shaped by early customers and years of feedback. Here's how that original crossbody evolved into our popular SideKYT style.
