Take a tour with me of our smallest, smartest design: StarterKYT.
A compact insulin carrying case for people who prefer to carry the essentials, and nothing more.
The inspiration behind StarterKYT
StarterKYT came from a simple realisation: not everyone wants a diabetes bag.
After hundreds of conversations with people from the diabetes community (read more about how they shaped KYT designs here), I realised there were plenty of people who wanted something much smaller. They still needed to carry insulin pens, blood glucose testing equipment, and hypo treatments, but they wanted a solution that slipped more quietly into daily life.
I was well in the throes of my design process (more on my mission to redesign diabetes bags and cases here) when I became interested in a different kind of object: something that could sit casually on a desk, at a restaurant, or in the car without attracting attention.
So instead of using a handbag as the starting point, I started exploring what the smallest, most useful object could be to take the shape of a diabetes accessory.
I landed on a clever little case that looks and works much like a glasses case. It’s built to organise a basic diabetes equipment kit of insulin and blood testing equipment with fully magnetic closures for easy access on the go. And, critically, it’s not asking people to carry a whole extra bag just for diabetes equipment.
StarterKYT is our simplest design, built to be used on its own or stashed in another bag. It’s the smallest diabetes accessory in the world (we think); ethically crafted from hard-wearing Italian leather and super-strong magnets and supporting diabetes charities in need.
Take a full tour of the design with me in the video above and see if it's the style you've been searching for.
P.S: not sure whether StarterKYT, SideKYT or SideKYT+ is the better fit for the diabetes supplies you carry? I've broken down the differences here.
