Tour SideKYT: the ultimate diabetes travel bag

Take a little tour of our most popular design: SideKYT.

The brief was simple enough: create a premium diabetes crossbody that could keep up with real life and wild adventures. I think we nailed it.

The inspiration behind SideKYT

SideKYT is jam-packed with the insights of hundreds of people with diabetes from around the world.

When I first started talking to people about what they wanted from a diabetes handbag, the thing that struck me was how many people were looking for something smaller. Like me, they were trying to fit diabetes equipment into a regular handbag (insulin pens, blood glucose meters, insulin cooling pouches, snacks, you know the drill) but all their life and medical essentials were getting muddled together.

So I decided to separate life and diabetes into two halves, while also streamlining the way diabetes equipment was organised on the inside.

The result is SideKYT: a compact and contemporary diabetes crossbody designed around the things people with diabetes carry, and the places they carry them to.

It's become an everyday sidekick for lots of people (including me), but after taking mine across 20-odd countries, I think its best role is as a diabetes travel bag.

Because when you break down diabetes and travel (like I did here), you’ll know it’s far more than getting from A to B. It’s about keeping insulin cool, carrying heaps of back-ups, and staying organised in unfamiliar places.

And if you’ve read my take on what makes a good diabetes travel bag (more here), you’ll already know the drill.

This is where SideKYT’s got you: the dedicated diabetes half keeps supplies organised and easy to find, anywhere (ever whipped out an insulin injection on the Mekong River?) It's insulated and pairs beautifully with FRIO cooling wallets, helping keep insulin cool while temperatures climb (on a beach, in the Philippines, bliss).

And its crossbody design keeps you hands-free while lugging about important travel essentials (passports, luggage, those incredibly fragile ceramics you told yourself would be fine in your carry-on).

Ethically crafted from premium Italian leather and solid brass hardware so you can feel confident putting the bag through its paces, while feeling good about how each bag sold helps to support diabetes charities.

Wearing CGMs, insulin pumps and diabetes handbags
Sep 15, 2026
CGMs and insulin pumps have changed how many of us manage diabetes, but they don't mean we can leave the back-ups at home. I look at what pump and CGM users still need to carry, and what to consider when choosing a bag that can keep up.
What makes a good diabetes travel bag?

After years of travelling with Type 1 diabetes, I've learned that a good travel bag needs to do more than look the part. Here are the features I look for, from easy access to dedicated insulin storage and space for all the other things I need along the way.
